Deer Lake State Park, named after the rare coastal dune lake within its boundaries, is a haven for eco-friendly activities. These dune lakes are unique worldwide and are exclusively found along the Gulf Coast in the United States.

Flora and Fauna: The park's diverse coastal dune habitat is home to southern magnolias, golden asters, woody goldenrod, and scrub oaks. You may also find rare plants like Gulf coast lupine, spoonflower, pitcher plants, and Curtiss' sandgrass, one of Florida's largest populations. The vibrant colors of summer wildflowers and a multitude of resident or migratory birds and butterflies add to the park's natural beauty.

Activities:

  • A boardwalk provides easy access to the beach, which is perfect for picnicking, swimming, and fishing. This walkway also offers spectacular views of the park's dune ecosystem, one of its 11 natural communities.
  • The park features two hiking trails, allowing for panoramic views of pines, deer moss, and the northern part of Deer Lake.
  • Other experiences include birding, wildlife viewing, and beach activities.
